Being a coach involves being able to draw experience from several disciplines. Coaching is based on a partnership that involves giving both support and challenging opportunities to employees. Whether the focus is on service, quality, cost, value, speed, efficiency, performance, or other similar goals, teams are the basic unit that supports most organizations. The structure of teams continues to change to adapt to changes in technology, markets, and the necessities and possibilities of remote work. Evaluating information, making decisions and problem solving happens continually. On average we make as many as 50 decisions before we start work every day. Despite all the natural decision making that goes on and the problem solving we do, some people are very uncomfortable with having to make decisions. The answer rests in our ability to identify options, research, take time to define critical thinking means and learn these skills. The ability to clearly reason through problems and to present arguments in a logical, compelling way has become a key skill for survival as a leader. Using these processes to lead can take the anxiety out of problem solving and make decisions.

To discern between different feelings and label them appropriately, use emotional information to guide thinking and behavior, and manage and/or adjust emotions to adapt to environments and achieve one’s goal.

This workshop is based on the emotional intelligence model derived from Daniel Goleman’s work that is comprised by four domains: self-awareness, self-management, social awareness and relationship management. Nested within these are learnable competencies that enable us to improve performance in our personal lives, at work and as a leader.
